Privacy Policy
The short version: MAV works on your phone. It doesn't need an account, doesn't show ads, doesn't include analytics or tracking tools, and doesn't send your media or personal data to us.
1. Who we are
MAV: Video & Music Player ("MAV", "the app") is developed and published by Appsgain Technologies Private Limited ("we", "us"). This policy explains how the app handles information. You can reach us at info@appsgain.in.
2. Information we collect
We don't collect personal information through MAV. Specifically, the app:
- doesn't ask you to create an account or sign in
- doesn't include advertising, analytics, crash-reporting or tracking SDKs
- doesn't upload your videos, music, playlists, files or usage history to our servers
- doesn't collect your name, email address, phone number, contacts or location
If you email us, we receive your email address and whatever you choose to write, and we use it only to reply to you.
3. Data stored on your device
To work, MAV keeps some information locally on your phone. This data stays on your device and is not sent to us:
- an index of the videos and songs on your phone, with thumbnails and album art
- your playlists, favorites, recently played items and playback positions
- your settings, such as equalizer, subtitle style, gestures and theme
- files you move into the Private Safe, stored encrypted in the app's private storage
- files you receive through Fast Share, and files the tools create (for example trimmed videos, ringtones and GIFs), saved to your phone's storage
4. Permissions and why we ask
MAV asks only for permissions it needs for its features. You can deny or revoke them in your phone's settings; the related feature will then stop working.
| Permission | Why MAV uses it |
|---|---|
| Photos and videos, Music and audio (storage) | To find and play the videos and songs on your phone, and to save files that the tools create. |
| Notifications | To show playback controls while music or video plays in the background. |
| Foreground service, wake lock | To keep playback running when the screen is off or you switch apps. |
| Battery optimization exemption | To stop the system from interrupting long background playback. You can decline it. |
| Modify audio settings | For the equalizer, bass boost, reverb and other sound effects. |
| Nearby Wi-Fi devices, Wi-Fi state, location (Android 8 to 12) | Only for Fast Share, to find nearby phones over Wi-Fi Direct. Android requires location permission for this on older versions. MAV doesn't read, store or share your location. |
| Internet, network state, local network | For Network Stream (playing links you enter, including devices on your home network) and for Fast Share's direct connection. |
| Usage access (optional) | Only for Storage Analyzer, to show how much space installed apps use. It's off unless you turn it on in system settings. |
5. Network features
Network Stream
When you play a stream URL, MAV connects directly to that address, the way a web browser would. The server you connect to will see your IP address and basic request information. That server is run by a third party, not by us, and its own privacy policy applies.
Channel directory
If you open the channel directory, MAV downloads public playlist files from the iptv-org project, which is hosted on GitHub (iptv-org.github.io). GitHub may log your IP address as part of serving those files. MAV doesn't host, provide or control any of the listed streams.
Fast Share
Fast Share creates a direct Wi-Fi Direct connection between two phones. Files travel straight from one phone to the other and never pass through our servers.
6. Sharing with others
We don't sell, rent or share personal data, because we don't collect it. When you choose to share a file using Android's share sheet, the app you pick (for example a messaging app) handles that file under its own privacy policy.
7. Security
Files in the Private Safe are encrypted with AES-256-GCM. The encryption key is kept in the Android Keystore on your phone, and your PIN is stored only as a protected hash, never in plain text. Because the key never leaves your device, we can't recover Private Safe files if you forget your PIN or uninstall the app.
8. Backups
If Android backup is turned on in your phone's settings, Android may include some MAV settings in your Google account backup. This backup is managed by Google under your control, and we can't access it. Private Safe files and your PIN are always excluded from backups.
9. Your choices and deleting data
- You can revoke any permission at any time in Settings > Apps > MAV > Permissions.
- You can clear MAV's thumbnails and temporary files from the app's settings.
- To delete everything MAV stores, go to Settings > Apps > MAV > Storage > Clear storage, or uninstall the app. Move any files you want to keep out of the Private Safe first, because they will be deleted too.
Media files on your phone that MAV didn't create are never deleted unless you delete them yourself. See Data Deletion for more detail.
10. Children
MAV is not directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children.
11. Changes to this policy
If we change how MAV handles data, we'll update this page and the effective date at the top. Significant changes will also be mentioned in the app's release notes.
